There is an Italy that rarely gets a mention and that newspapers give little or no space to, but it is never-the-less an aspect of the country that should be revealed.

This “Solo in Italia” (Only in Italy) collection features different forays into contemporary Italian life: four different moments, the four seasons of life. Winter in the suburbs and the new ethnic communities, is depicted in the black and white photographs of a social reportage by Francesco Cocco. The dream-like images produced by Lorenzo Cicconi Missoni are of suburban piazzas in the spring, whilst summer is portrayed with photographs with clean, unapologetic colours that reflect both holiday-moments and deserted industrial areas that seem to have experienced an unexpected and mass resignation, as seen by Daniele Dainelli. Massimo Siragusa’s autumn is an all Mediterranean affair, with light-soaked colours revealing beaches and trees in need of saving. All these images produced by Cocco, Cicconi Massi, Dainelli and Siragusa are described by Antonio Pascale who ties the different viewpoints together. Although each individual photographer has focused on just one aspect of Italy, between them, the five men provide a polyphonic viewpoint of the visions, doubts, sadness, dreams and raw reality of a country undergoing huge changes that make it both terribly familiar and utterly alien at the same time. “Only in Italy” provides a renewal and confirmation of a traditional reportage made up of images and words and is a unique and privileged insight into our times.
