Museo di Roma in Trastevere

The exhibition aims to present the work of Pino Settanni (1949 - 2010), one of the most important Italian photographers of our century.

There is a thread of Ariadne that accompanies faithfully from the beginning, the Pino Settanni labyrinthine eclecticism in over 40 years of undisciplined creativity in the image world: the refusal of dejà vu. The Roman photographer voted to continue trial, owns the mysterious and irreplaceable gift that allows real Lords of the Gaze to be able to see what ordinary mortals cannot see. With his visionary talent, Settanni went through all the “kinds”: portraits, photojournalism, and photo art, still-life, without ever being caged in the patterns of granted experience.
This challenge has always seen him like a winner to a multitude of innovative bets. The case of the 78 images taken in 1994 who staged the unusual representation of the Tarot entrusting to 38 real people (all women, with the exception of great Italian actor Mario Scaccia in the Fool Arcanum) and have given to this ancient game alive and dynamic dimension, enriched by the use of genuine accessories specially created for the occasion.
See what others don’t see is the hallmark of great photographers. But not everyone maybe able, even in the enterprise to not to repeat and engage in an experimentation capable of renewal in stimulating surprises. With its fun-magical virtues, Settanni does it. His eye is always an unexpected visitor.
