An inadequate look. Photographs by Francesco Zizola

Museo di Roma in Trastevere

The exhibition presents a new selection of colour photographs by Francesco Zizola shot during the last 10 years of his career in 20 countries around the world.

From where does a photojournalist look when he takes a picture? Where do we look when we see these pictures? What responsibility do we have or owe to the person who is shown in these shots? Francesco Zizola’s photographic work stems from these questions, particularly in his colour production, which calls into questions his own way of seeing.

Francesco Zizola (Rome, 1962) has photographed some of the world’s major conflicts and their hidden crises. His book “Born Somewhere” was the result of a 13-year project; covering the situation of children in 28 different countries around the world. He has published five books, including Iraq (published with Amnesty International, 2007), which documents the beginning of Iraq II, Etats d'enfance and Born Somewhere (Fusiorari); an extensive piece of work on the living conditions of children from 28 different countries.
In 2006, the Italian film director Liliana Ginanneschi made a documentary on Francesco called Occhio Sensibile (Sensitive Eye). In 2007, he opened 10b Photography, a Rome-based multipurpose centre for professional photography, featuring a gallery and a digital laboratory. He is a member and co-founder of NOOR picture agency and foundation. Francesco lives in Rome.
